Everything about the weather getting warmer is exciting—except the breakouts. In the summertime, it’s common for all skin types to experience more oil production, which can result in acne and clogged pores. It can be tough to find a solution to this annual problem, but CBD should be one of the first places you start in developing a summer skincare routine.

Incorporating CBD into your skincare routine does more than just make you feel fancy—it’s got tons of topical benefits for our skin. We love it for summer especially because CBD interacts directly with our sebocytes, which are responsible for producing oil and sebum. By decreasing the amount of oil your skin generates, there’s less of a chance for pores to get clogged with excess sebum, which can result in breakouts. Plus, CBD has powerful antibacterial properties, which just helps clear up skin even more by killing the acne-causing bacteria at the source.

Excess oil isn’t the only thing that wreaks havoc on our skin in the summer. The sun is extremely damaging to the skin if it’s not properly protected. It speeds up the skin aging process, so sunbathing will not do anything for the prevention of wrinkles. Luckily, CBD is high in antioxidants, which reverses free radical damage caused by UV rays.

To get the most out of all these benefits CBD has to offer our skin, blend your favorite CBD oil into some of your favorite products. Here are a few of our tips!

1. Use a moisturizer with CBD.

Even though oil production ramps up in the summer, it’s still crucial that you’re keeping your skin hydrated. The more hydrated your skin is, the less likely it will be to produce more oil. CBD in your moisturizer delivers the antioxidant properties to heal skin from the sun, will lock in moisture, and even decrease the activity of your oil glands. This way, your skin is fresh and glowing and your sebocytes aren’t overworked! Look for a moisturizer with a lighter consistency if you have oily skin all year round.

2. Wear sunscreen!

CBD can help reverse damage done by the sun, but it’s best to protect your skin in the first place. Apply sunscreen 15 minutes before heading outside and make sure to reapply throughout the day. If you do get burned, toss a couple drops of CBD isolate into your aloe vera before applying.

3. Wear CBD instead of makeup.

You read that right! CBD has the power to even out our skin tone, thanks to anti-inflammatory properties. Bye bye summer redness, CBD is to the rescue. Foundation isn’t needed here—you’d probably just sweat it off anyways!
